Common Ticketing & Journey Planner

Project Brief:

The key highlights of CMP will be:

  • Ticketing system is a critical component of any transit operator and any intervention to simplify fare collection can be beneficial to both the transit operator and the citizen.
  • CUMTA has been established with the explicit aim of facilitating inter modal transport and to improve the ease of transport within the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
  • Formulate proposals for integration of all public transport systems within CUMTA jurisdiction.
  • With the recent advancements in ticketing systems and Automated Fare Collection Systems, it has now become possible to offer seamless interoperability without making end users follow independent solutions.
  • The new generation payment systems can be completely virtual and can even be extended to off-board to reduce the hassle of handling money and change within the transport system.
  • CUMTA plans to introduce App-based Journey Planner and Integrated Ticketing.
  • The aim of this project is to facilitate ticketing for commuters before boarding the transit system and the app will have sections that will provide dynamic information regarding transit operations and operators in Chennai Metropolitan Area. This will improve the convenience for commuters.

Stakeholders/Departments involved:

General public, CMRL, MTC, SETC, Southern Railways, TNeGA, Traffic Police, TNIDB and other relevant stakeholders.

Current Status:

CUMTA is planning to hire a Transaction Advisor and subsequently the selection of implementer of the Journey Planner cum Off-board Ticketing Solution through an open tender process will be initiated.
