As per the existing CUMTA Act, the jurisdiction of CUMTA extends to the whole of Chennai
Metropolitan Area (CMA).
However, the mobility needs of people extend
beyond the present CMA boundaries. Thus, work is in progress to extend the geographical coverage of
CUMTA to include satellite towns and industrial areas outside the CMA.
This will enable CUMTA to ensure physical continuity and institutional robustness of urban transport services, so that everyone can benefit from an integrated urban transport system.
